LET THEM EAT CAKE
When someone offers you a 7 page spread in a magazine, wether it's Tractor Spotting Monthly or Anglers Anonymous, It's pretty hard to turn it down. Fortunately I don't know a tractor from the back end of a well endowed cow & my angling skills consist of a quick run down to the chippy, but something I do know a little bit about is how to take a half decent picture.
The awesome Belle Bridal Magazine Yorkshire wanted to create their very own modern take on Marie Antoinette set amidst the illustrious grandeur of Saltmarshe hall. With incredible dresses by Allure Bridals & enough cakes by Nice Icing to make Bruce Bogtrotter do a happy dance. This was no ordinary shoot.
MODERN MEETS OLD SCHOOL
The real appeal in working with Belle Bridal Magazine on this shoot was that it encapsulated a huge amount of what I try to achieve within my work. For me Shutter Go Click Photography has always set out to create contemporary photography with a vintage vibe. Of course not just with my alternative take on wedding photography & portraiture, but even in the brand I have crafted. & What better way is there to really go to town on this idea than bringing Marie Antoinette into the 21st Century.
BRINGING A VISION TO LIFE
The need to collaborate with fellow creatives has been a mantra which I have stuck by since day one of starting my own business. Not only does it allow you to communicate away from your own little bubble. But there's a sense of excitement in a unified vision that is difficult to replicate outside of a styled shoot environment.
On this incredible day I was blown away by the attention to detail of the awesome Louisa Taylor of Make Up Elegance make up artist. Though one of the truly stand out features as I'm sure you'll agree is the unbelievable hair creations that FHD Leeds put together. When it comes to Marie Antoinette more is most definitely more & I've not seen this many hair accessories since Diana Ross got dragged through a hedge backwards.
Of course none of this would have been possible without the awesome Gorgia from Belle Bridal Magazine who had an idea & made it come to life.
PHOTOGRAPHING A QUEEN
It's not that I don't like photographing inside, but my gig or speciality as people know is the great outdoors. When I thought of Marie Antoinette I pictured neat little floral gardens on a Summers day & wild rolling landscapes as a backdrop to 1700's splendour. Shooting inside the awesome space of Saltmarshe Hall meant breaking out the flash guns & brollies then using the light or lack thereof to my advantage. 90% of the images were also taken using the new Tamron 35mm f1.8 VC (review on it's way soon) & holy moly that thing is sharper than the devils knitting needle. The VC of course also came in handy & I was able to hand hold at some pretty unheard of shutter speeds to get the shot.
When looking around at the other similarly themed styled shoots. It's always hard to take inspiration on board & then try & make it your own. The first thing I noticed at the venue was the crazy patterned wallpaper in the bedrooms & knew straight away I wanted to tie that into some of the finished pictures. The end goal in my mind once we had picked out locations around the building was to create a very specific look of contrast for each of the chosen sets.
